Travel Themed Wedding Ideas: Ways to incorporate your love for travel into your big day!

Travel-Themed Wedding Ideas

Did you and your significant other meet while travelling abroad? Are you considering a travel themed wedding because you just love travelling? Whatever the reason, there are several ways to incorporate a travel theme into your big day! Some of our past brides came up with some unique ideas, and we have new ones for you, too!

Entry and seating chart

A travel themed wedding can share your love for travel from the minute your guests walk into your reception. Travel-themed seating charts can tie in your favorite roads, national monuments, favorite sites, or cities. Kat, one of our brides that got married at Olde Dobbin Station, decided to make each table a city location, and used a world map as her seating chart to let her guests know where they were sitting.

Centerpieces

Kat’s table numbers doubled as centerpiece placements. She printed a black and white stencil of the famous landmarks in each city. This is just one way to have a travel themed wedding. You can use suitcases stacked as centerpieces, or even small trinkets of famous places like the Eiffel Tower. Below are some travel themed wedding centerpiece ideas:

  • Small plastic molds of famous architecture
  • Framed pictures of locations that you and your significant other have traveled
  • City names as table numbers
  • “Road” table runners
  • Drink wine from different regions and use the bottles as vases
  • Frames or rolled-out maps
  • Replicas of a special location
  • Beach sand from various places in glass
  • Mini umbrellas at the rehearsal dinner
  • Hot air balloon models
  • Puzzles put together and framed of famous places

Food

This one is self-explanatory. You love Italy, serve pizza! He proposed in Mexico, serve tacos! You can also set up buffet stations of different food from places around the world.

Location

If you have a love for craft beer and travel themed weddings, you can host your wedding in a bier garten or Hofbrahaus. You could find German style decor and glasses. This could also be done in a Parisian cafe look-alike with classical French music, an Italian Bistro, or a beach. Or, have a destination wedding. The setting can emphasize a travel theme without trying!

Sign In and Guestbook

The options are endless when it comes to a travel themed wedding guestbook or sign-in table. Two of our brides used globes in various designs for their guests to sign in or write messages. Printable maps are available online in all sizes, we are big fans of Etsy! Lay out a large vintage paper map with the message “you mean the world to us, please sign your favorite place”.

Favors

Globe keychains, thank you written in different languages, and compass wine stoppers are all examples of travel themed wedding favors. We love the idea of luggage tags! We haven’t seen those used yet. My Wedding Favors has a great travel themed wedding favors resource page.
